News and Notices from Anne Benson Stables

Millennium Force with Anne BensonIt was a Grand National for the history books... Sarde Morgans' phenomenal pleasure driving horse MILLENNIUM FORCE (Minion Millennium x Arboria Fortune) had an amazing year with wins in the Open and Ladies division at every show he attended, so it was especially rewarding when he was crowned World Champion Ladies Pleasure Driving and Grand National Champion Ladies Pleasure Driving Gelding with Anne on the lines at the 2017 Grand National & World Champion Morgan Horse Show. Valley Acres Who Dat with Anne BensonAnne's driving horses were certainly primed for the week, as the engaging young gelding VALLEY ACRES WHO DAT (Rowenda Boogie On Down x Lotus Elise JWM) also wore red roses out of the ring on his World Champion victory pass in the Three Year Old Pleasure Driving division. This exciting youngster was selected by Tommey and Joanna Meyers of Snug Harbor Morgans with Anne's endorsement from the nice prospects offered by Fox Hollow Talk About Me GCHAndrew Beiler's Sunrise Stables last winter, and they have been thrilled with his development over the season. Cheryl Ricci and her multiple world Champion FOX HOLLOW TALK ABOUT ME GCH (Whispering Whammunition x Cyderbay Chantilly), had an excellent drive in her qualifier, but it was her daughter Victoria who drove this wonderful gelding to the top honors as the Reserve World Champion Ladies Classic Pleasure Driving horse, as well as the cooler and tricolors in the Grand National Classic Pleasure Driving Youth Finals. Also enjoying excellent rides with Top Five ribbons were Starboard's Blitz Krieg with Roxanne Sardelli Greenway for Mackenzie Bianca in Ladies Park Saddle, and MWA The Man Is In Town in English Pleasure Geldings with Anne Benson up for Snug Harbor Morgans, who later in the week congratulated the Rhodes Family and new trainer Phil Fountain on their purchase of "Tony" for their daughter.

Also under the Sarde banner, MILLENNIUM FORCE won the Ladies Pleasure Driving qualifier in his only appearance here. Joanna andTommey Meyers enjoyed a tricolor victory pass as their gelding MWA THE MAN IS IN TOWN (Town MWA The Man Is In Town and Anne BensonAssets x Darlin Diva) swept the Ladies English Pleasure division with Anne Benson in the irons. Cheryl Ricci and FOXHOLLOW TALK ABOUT ME GCH (Whispering Whammunition x Cyderbay Chantilly) were Reserve Champion in Ladies Classic Pleasure Driving, then daughter Victoria took "Toby" for a spin to win the Classic Pleasure Driving Open Championship. Starboard's Blitz Krieg with Roxanne Sardelli GreenwayThere's nothing quite like the New England Regional Morgan Horse Show The oldest Morgan show in the country and originally called the National Morgan Horse Show, this historic event in Northhampton, Massachusetts is one of our favorite shows each year. Our team this year had a great show, kicked off with Joanna Meyers winning the Classic Pleasure Saddle Limit Rider with her heart horse, MASTERCLASS. Joanna also got to watch her new horse, MWA THE MAN IS IN TOWN, secure a very good reserve ribbon in the Open English Pleasure qualifier with Anne in the saddle. Roxanne Sardelli Greenway loves to show her niece, Mackenzie Chianca's, seasoned gelding, the great STARBOARD'S BLITZ KRIEG, and this pair had two solid rides in the Ladies qualifier and championship, earning a reserve inthe qualifier. Sarde Morgans celebrated their fourth consecutive win in the East Coast MWA The Man Is In Town and Anne BensonInvitational Pleasure Driving Championship with MILLENNIUM FORCE, with Anne in the cart for the win. Last but not least, Cheryl Ricci had a wonderful week with FOX HOLLOW TALK ABOUT ME GCH, as they won their qualifier and capped it off with the Ladies Classic Pleasure Driving Reserve Championship.

UPHA Chapter 14 Spring Premiere was a great opening season show! Everyone dusted off their show clothes and put all their winter work to good use at the slightly chilly, but competitive first show of the season in Springfield, Massachusetts. As usual, UPHA Chapter 14 put on a well run and fun show for all exhibitors, and ABS enjoyed several important victory passes there. Victoria Ricci and her PINECREEK IMMORTAL VISION (Pinecreek's Noble Vision x Pinecreek's Liberation) earned two strong ribbons in their first appearance together as an Amateur Hunter Pleasure team. Victoria then piloted her favorite go-to guy, SARDE'S STILL SMOKIN (Winterset Thyme N Agin x Stonecroft Bewitched) to top honors as the Sarde's Still Smokin and Victoria RicciOpportunity RoadHack Championand the winner in the Opportunity Road Hack qualifier. Cheryl Ricci ventured into the Classic Pleasure Driving division for the first time with her multiple world Champion FOX HOLLOW TALK ABOUT ME GCH (Whispering Whammunition x Cyderbay Chantilly), earning goo ribbons in both her Ladies qualifier as well as the open championship.

Joanna and Tom Meyers of Snug Harbor Morgans in S. Kingston, RI, celebrated the first victory pass of their exciting three year old gelding, VALLEY ACRES WHO DAT (Rowenda Boogie On Down x Lotus Elise JWM), recently selected for them by Anne Benson, who enjoyed the driving honors as this talented youngster won the UPHA Morgan Pleasure Driving Classic. Joanna also enjoyed two solid rides on her seasoned partner, MASTER CLASS (The Master's Touch x NBN At Your Command), which included a Reserve in Classic Pleasure Saddle Junior/Novice Horse. This team continues to get better and we can't wait to watch their progress this season. We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Will Vidler for his assistance at this show. He is always smiling and his good humor in every situation is infectious.
